Although Bestwood aren't contesting at the contest due to a concert Booking. The NEMBBA Sounds of Brass Entertainment Contest takes place at Rufford Abbey tomorrow starting at noon. Bands competing include Strata Brass, Carlton, Long Eaton, Whitwell, Newstead Youth, Creswell. Should be a good day if the weather holds up.
  2. Carlton Brass will not be at rufford tomorrow

I don't know yet what the placings were from 4th to 7th.

Despite the weather, it was a good day out. Thanks to Creswell for letting us use their bass drum during our performance.
With a bit of luck, the Sun might be out next year!!

Bear in mind I know of at least 2 band jobs cancelled yesterday in the Midlands due to rain, how did you all cope?

I've not done the Rufford contest - is it undercover or did you all have an unexpected pool party?!

There's a marquee that Rufford Park kindly allowed us to use. The problem is that marquees plus rain make it sound like you're sat inside a drum, especially when the worst of the rain is during your band's quiet melodic solo!
The other problem was there was no solid path into the marquee so by the end of the day, the areas around the entrances resembled a swamp!

I know a band from the States that may be in the area for next year's NEMBBA contest. Does anybody know where I can get more information about the 2008 contest?

You could give the NEMBBA Secretary Brian Eggleshaw a ring on 01623478454 he should be able to give you more details.
