    Anybody got any ideas/rumours yet?:)

We have got promoted already - regardless of result but would like something semi-decent for the fourth section finals

Only a rumour, but heard that 1st section may be English Heritage.Fantastic piece, but certainly difficult for us artists, the cornet players!!!Can't honestly see it being this----------I think.

    When are they officially announced?

I hope so - what a cracking piece that would be for the finals, not played it for years! Although bit of a nasty Eb bass part if i remember rightly??

English Heritage would be great, I'd look forward to working on that, some great music.

Some others I'd like to see for the First Section (my band will probably kill me for this !!!) :-

    Blitz - Bourgeois
Prelude, Toccata & Fugue (Graduation Day) - Sparke

What about Resurgam for the 2nd Section.

Oh, BTW, they're announced usually on June 1st (although they are also usually in the BB for that week which 'hits' doormats on the previous Thursday)

Looking forward to the trip North to Harrogate and a great weekend in my first finals appearance as a conductor.

I really want either Entertainments or Postcards From Home for the 4th section.

Wish they would announce the test pieces after the last area contest. It's just getting ridiculous now. How much time do they think we need. It's only about 129 days away!

    What about: -

1st Diversion on a Bass Theme, Lloyd George

    2nd London Overture, Philip Sparke

    3rd Three Figures, Herbert Howells

4th An English Suite for Brass Band, Michael Ball

It's not very likely yo be 'Entertainments' is it?! That was used for the 3rd section area a couple of years ago and deemed too hard for a lot of the bands then.

I know we're good, guys, but come on...... :)

Or am I just missing a joke there?! :-?

    I think you'll find it's "George Lloyd"
Lloyd George was the Prime Minister during the 1st World War.
No, I wasn't there, and he didn't know my Father !

When you subtract summer holidays, and actually count rehearsal days, its not that far away.

No, you're not missing a joke. If it was used for the 3rd section area, surely it would be an ideal challenge for 4th section national bands. I don't know about others, but i quite fancy a challenge.

Any other 4th secton, challenging pieces with something in for horn? ;)

That's what I thought - alot of bands stuggled with it from what I heard.

If it was picked for the 4th section now, you'd have a LOT of very unhappy 4th section players...........

    ...ambitious????

..I take it these are for the finals on planet Zog?

(and I thought Elgar Variations was damned hard for the Senior Cup!)

    Congratulations.

However, your thread was titled ' What do you fancy for 2008 Lower Section Finals to play as your test piece' whereas this one is asking for people to mention any rumours they've heard.

Anyone interested in reading's Ian's masterpiece can do so here: http://www.themouthpiece.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32184
