I know we haven't started with the areas yet :D , but am I right in thinking that the nationals pieces will be announced over the next few weeks. I think this is what happened last year?

How true, would like to get to Harrogate though but our conductor can't take us to the areas and we have had to find a replacement in the last couple of weeks, although things are going okay it is difficult to tell how we will perform on the day. Mind I suppose that is true of all bands.

Was just thinking about this as well and wondering who when the first "guess the music for the finals" post would come up!

I know you haven't listed or asked for suggestions - so shall we start here anyway.

    Shall we?
C'mon you know you want to!

    OK I'll start:

Going back into the archives a bit.

    Champs - Festival Music
1st - Life Divine - watch out Solo Bari
2nd - Essence of Time - maybe a challenge for the 2nd section
    3rd - Culloden Moor - 2nd section finals a while back.
4th - Music for the Elizabethan Court (this was a finals piece for 3rd section - i think - many moons ago - liked it - good allround band piece

Good luck to all the band at the areas and to all bands that qualify for the finals.

I may be way WAY off with this one, but i'm sure i read/heard somewhere that the Nationals Piece for the Champ section would be a new commission, especially for the finals. Might have been in the bandsman, cause i remember Paul Hindmarsh (i think thats his name, head of the contesting committee of GB) saying it would be a new piece. :?

Anyone back me up on this...or did i dream it??? :?

Yep, I'm almost positive it's a commission. They've probably picked next years area and finals pieces tho........

I have heard that next years Regionals pieces have already been chosen as well.

surely makes sense to do it that way? Pick the pieces in a block of a few years at a time... that way a strategic view on contesting can be drawn...

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings (unless you like months of speculation). The National finals test piece 's will be announced June 1st!!

    I think, I'm 90% sure i read this somewhere!!

Was sure it has always been the tradition to annonce them at the start of the Area contests :?:

I think we have things the wrong way round here. So far as I know the Area pieces (following year) are announced at the Finals, but not the other way round.

I'm not sure, but I remember when I did the Lower Section finals with St. Austell we knew the piece at the time of the Area contest (Early April). I think so anyway :?: :?:
