Anyone heard anything on the grapevine about the test pieces for the finals this year? or the age old question, what would you like to be on the stands?

Maybe its time for matched sets?!!

Partitas: Gregson - Wilby - Kelly - Norbury - Heaton or Sparke

    Div's: Ball's Divertimento - Barry's Divertimento - Sparke's Diversion - Diversions on a Bass Theme - Diversions for Brass Band

and how about Places, or all 5 from the same composer?

Knew I should have kept my mouth shut.

Oh well, at least I didn't mention Derek Broadbent's Variations on a theme of Cannibal Corpse for the fourth section or the new commission, Paul Lovatt-cooper's Here's one I prepared earlier(a tribute to Blue Peter) for the third....

    Edit: D'oh!!

    ;)

    Nooooooooooooooo!

That would result in multiple versions of Tallis and Purcell Variations, just like all other Own Choice Contests!

    :frown:

  14. I was thinking more in the line of Derek Broadbent's, '7 Variations on a Floral Dance' and Paul Lovatt Coopers, 3 Variations on the Dark Side of a Spoon.'
Then of course Mr Barry's Variation of a Cheltenham Gold Cup, Philip Sparke could pen a new commission, Diversion from Scotland. and the old favourite, Journey into nearly Bristol.

These are not as they sound. They are new works from a little known Norwegian composer by the name of Svend Karlson. The bands get sent a copy of the piece and it is pot luck as to which section is it aimed at. At least this way, the complaints made about places would have some grounding.

Forgive me - I am falling into the trap that ensnares many a TMP poster, that of not reading the post correctly before responding!

I'm game for Three Figures if you are, Ken!
