I think its in the programme for the Spring Festival so you may have to wait a couple of months :(

The Spring Festival programme announces the test piece for the British Open, not the National Championships finals.

It's usually in the first Bandsman in June (or has been in the past few years).

I seem to recall always finding out around the time of Bugle Band Contest....which is the second weekend in June.

    While to wait yet!

If it's a commission we usually find out end of April.

No news may mean "old" piece.

    I reckon it'll be Salamander.
Twas John MacCabe landmark birthday last year I believe (dunno which one) but he got clouded over by the Vinter hype.

If anything, it might be his "Northern Lights". I don't think this work has ever been set for a contest.

Northern Lights was used in Butlins a few years ago. Great sop solo in it!

That was Wilby's Northern Lights Boove, silly!

Wouldn't complain about that one too, that was fun!

Anyone know what the deadline is for bands to formally & finally accept their invitations to attend?
Just wondering for those bands that just missed out and are hoping for some drop-outs

    Weekend before the contest?

  15. I hope not - I deeply hated that piece first time around and it's one of very few (I can't think of ANY others) pieces that I would consider not playing at the final for. Odd because I love Images and especially Cloudcatcher

All entries have to be in to Kapitol Promotions by 4.00 p.m. Saturday, 1st May 2010

Suggest anyone reading this and their band is one of the finalists they should make sure their Contest Secretary returns the entry form to Philip Morris a.s.a.p.

I am sure I could get BTB to play it! :)

I do hope the chosen piece is a challenge though… I’m sure other Bands that have done well with “Saint-Saens Variations” will also be hoping for something to get their teeth into.
