What happened to the National Brass Band Club ? I recently found my 1964/65 membership card in the loft. 5/- (5 Shillings) annual subscription. I remember we had a very nice metal lapel badge in the shape of a little blue lyre inscibed NBBC. Is it still in operation ? - Mr Wilx
Sounds a bit geeky lol, think it's the 'club' part of it. However, if it was reformed I would not doubt join!
OH i remember that , i was a member in the late 70s early 80s, i have still got certificates for winning solo contest that they staged, i think at the time there was a lady called Evelyn Bray who was in charge, as i say i think thats right ,from the yorkshire area
Yes I was a member of this "club".Mrs Bray was a stalwart of Yorkshire banding...she was the POPE of banding and you didn t argue with Mrs B.
But the 'salt of the earth'. If you needed a registration card sorted quickly, she was the one to sort it! I still have my club tie.

I think it would be a nice idea if such an organisation started again.
actually, sad to say... I STILL have the badge, and it's regularly worn at contests - though no-one's ever commented on it. lol
Well - I spotted one on ebay yesterday and put in a bid of 99p.(+£1.00 P&P) It was a winning bid and the badge is winging it's way to me as I type. It will feel very strange to see one again after all these years. Like you I shall wear it with pride on certain occasions. I just hope nobody comes chasing me for 40 years unpaid subs !!! - Mr Wilx
In the 1950/60s the Yorkshire branch of the NBBC was run by Tom F. Atkinson who was the Leeds schools brass peri and who got all his pupils to sign up. I seem to remember that there was a reduced sub rate for "Juniors" - Mr Wilx
