The Portishead Brass Academy has gone from strength to strength since it was established in 2004 and now needs a lively personality to take over as Musical Director.

Portishead Brass Academy is a volunteer organisation, which provides excellent opportunities for new and developing brass musicians of all standards to learn, perform and enjoy making music. The Academy is an initiative of the Portishead Town band which is itself a registered charity.

There are currently around 60 members in this vibrant organisation all of whom have the opportunity to move through 3 separate bands:

Brass Blowers provides an introduction for those new to brass playing.
    Training Band
Academy Band a unique blend of developing musicians and more mature players.

‘Graduates’ of the Academy can go on to become members of the Portishead Town
Band (2nd Section National Grading) or move in to another musical medium if they prefer.

The Academy Band itself is urgently in need of a Musical Director to oversee its weekly rehearsals. Anyone interested in this role would need to have some conducting experience and knowledge of brass playing in particular. The role would suit anyone seeking an opportunity to develop their conducting skills or someone looking for their first break into conducting in a relaxed but dynamic organisation.

The Academy Band carries out its own engagements throughout the year and rehearses during school terms on a Tuesday night between 7.30 – 9.30pm at Gordano School, Portishead.

If you feel you have what it takes to continue the success of the Academy Band or want more information on the organisation please either PM me on this post or email me at
