Welbeck Estates Brass Band proudly presents "Music for St George" - a concert of English music for Brass Band, in celebration of St George's Day.

This will take place at the Acorn Theatre, Queen Street, Worksop S80 2AN on Saturday April 26th at 7.30pm.

The programme features music by a whole host of English composers, from Barry Gray's 'Thunderbirds March' to Elgar's 'Pomp & Circumstance No. 1', The Beatles' 'Ticket to Ride', Robert Farnon's 'Westminster Waltz', and music by Eric Coates, Robbie Williams, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Arthur Sullivan and Henry Wood to name but a few.

Tickets are reasonably priced at £6 / £4 concessions and are available from band members or direct from the Acorn Theatre on 01909 501817 or visit www.acorntheatre.net There is a fully licensed bar, and light refreshments will also be available at the interval.

This is the band's first ever visit to the Acorn Theatre, but it certainly won't be the last, as further concerts have been scheduled for 2008 including an evening of Film Music on Saturday July 19th, and a Hallowe'en Spooktacular(!) on Friday October 31st.

See the band's new website www.welbeckband.com or e-mail welbeckband@hotmail.com for details on forthcoming events.

. . . and one Canadian ;) (Robert Farnon - born in Toronto, although he later settled in the UK and the Channel Islands)

Looks a great concert, though, and hope it goes well :)

Why is it that Band Promoters can never get their acts together?

Worksop's not that big a place, but "The Crossing" (www.crossingmusic.org) have 'Imps' booked for 26th April 2008 @7.30; and have had ever since we blew out their fire alarm system with 1812 last year - not going to be an easy one to top but we'll give it a damned good try .....!

Lets hope we both get a full house instead of sharing an audience between us.

Ron (currently working in Clowne, so for once happy to promote a local gig!)

good luck to Welbeck on the concert, it does seem odd that the Imps are also playing the same date and time practically next door to each other, hope all goes well, feel free to contact should you need players.

OK folks, someone didn't do their homework (probably me...!). Why didn't I think to check the Crossing website?? As the two venues are so close together, we've had a bit of a rethink.

Rather than trying to compete with the Imps on the same night, we've contacted the Acorn Theatre, who have been very helpful (but who also hadn't realised about the Imps concert!), and we're now presenting our concert on the day after, Sunday April 27th. Same start time, 7.30 pm, and same venue, The Acorn Theatre.

Hopefully this will help both bands, and means that the lucky people of Worksop can come and enjoy both concerts. We can't promise to match the Imps' "alarming" feat of last year, but we're looking forward to 'raising the roof' at the Acorn, nonetheless, with a concert of music by English composers (OK, Peter, and one Canadian..!).

Thanks to tomskibabes for your offer of help, too!
