    Hi there,

does anyone know of any fast-ish pieces mozart has written in 2/4. I have managed to find Eine Kleine Nacht Musik and Turkish Rondo, i'm trying to find ome more.

You're hiding from The X-Factor Results Show as well, then.
First Strictly, then that, then Casualty, then that again....don't think I'm desperate enough to think about Mozart on a Saturday night quite yet, though....;)

    be-dum tish....!

Personally I think the whole show is a joke in very poor taste, as that hateful, awful version of Heroes (which was already a stinker of a song) proves. If you want to contribute to what is a very worthy cause then do it direct without boosting the egos and profiles of the likes of Cowell and his cronies....

    ...and breathe....

So come on MBJ - whats the fascination with WA's stuff in 2?

Isn't the Marriage of Figaro in Alla Breve?

    All of it? :D

The overture and finale are certainly, but the OP asked specifically for 2/4, not Alla Breve. In common with a lot of pre-Romantic composers Mozart (afaik) wrote very little in 2/4, preferring to use the aforementioned AB if he wanted a 2 in a bar feel.

^ Precisely the point that I've not been getting around to posting.

For example - I don't recall any of MBJ's first example, Eine Kleine being in 2/4, although there was plenty in cut common.

Jonathan - dig out a large book of Mozart piano sonatas. There are a number of movements in 2/4 in these, including your example of the Turkish Rondo (which is merely the last variation of a movement in variation form).

if you really want to know then PM me :D.

I'll be more specific then. i'm looking for pieces which are fast and can be conducted with two conducting beats per bar, so cut common is inolved too.

If that's the case, then sections of the Magic Flute overture could fit the bill.

Hmmmmm! If it's to be an Instant Mozart type piece, it's already been done (by Peter Schickele aka P.D.Q. Bach) and arranged for band. I can't remember what it's called though!
