Was just having a slightly strange conversation with my brother during which I found myself trying to convince him that there is a brass band that cycles while playing. Anyhow, in searching for proof, I found this...

I don't think we'll ever be short of material for the caption competition!

Perhaps this ought to be included as an option in WhatSharp's Olympic sport poll...

I'm led to believe their repertoire includes

    Wheel Meet Again

    'Saddle'worth Festival Overture

    Bike Up The Strand

    Thus 'Spoke' Zarathustra

    'Cycle' Row the Boat Ashore

    Anything by Handel

    etc. etc. etc.

    *moves away from the pun-meisters...*

I've actually seen this band in action believe it or not, at the Brada Tatoo in Holland. Well I think it was this band - surely there can't be too many people mad enough to try to play trombones on bikes?? Anyway they did a display, complete with red arrows-esque precision cycling, and they were very entertaining.

One thing though...can you imagine the converstion to their instrument insurer?

"Hello Mr Insurance broker - I'd like to insure my band's set of instruments, please"
"OK no problem, and what type of band is it? A brass band or a marching band?
"Well we play whilst riding bicycles, and ride around confined spaces, in close formation, with the odd crossing manoeuvre. I'd like to ensure we have coverage for accidental damage..."
    " *click*....buzzzzzzz"

And then there's the Italian Bersagliera (sp?) regimental band who play on the run, 'cos the regiment never march, they run.... Think Greenjackets (march speed crotchet=140), but faster...

    Hell's teeth, they sound crap......

The pedalling crew are almost musical ....

The cycle band was on the Lord Mayor's Show the year Hadleigh did it, and they got a terrific round of applause when they rode in to where the rest of us were partaking of the midway refreshments.

Actually, they put in a showing at the Europeans gala concert in Groningen this year. Fairly impressive to see.
