Members of the band once again excelled with the organisation of the Annual Band Dinner & Awards Ceremony held at Milnrow Cricket Club on 24th March 2012.

Meeting at 7.00pm, members friends and associates past and present renewed friendships and exchanged gossip before local caterers "First Choice Catering" began serving the sumptuous meal of various roast meats and numerous seasonal vegetables, followed by a selection of desserts.

The decorative theme of the evening was in keeping with this Jubilee year, each table bearing the name of a member of the Royal Family, place cards were also suitably decorated.

During the evening, compere Louise Plant announced the presentation of the 2011 awards as voted on by members of the band.

Player of he Year: (Richard & Marian Hodgson Cup) Aaron Rivkin - Principal Euphonium.
Most Improved Player: (Arthur Bailey Cup) Rachel Squibbs – 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Trombone.
Bandsperson of the Year: This was a joint presentation of a Silver Salver to Jonny Shaw – Principal BBb Bass & Michael Thewlis – Solo Baritone, for services over and above provision of their playing abilities.

Finally Principal Percussionist Angus (Jock) Connell received a giant Teddy Bear and the title of Most Committed Player for his ‘unusual’ practice techniques whilst learning the Timpani part for the Grand Shield 2011.

A quiz and a raffle with numerous prizes were held during the evening to raise monies for band funds, and Milnrow Band wish to thank the following local businesses for their support in this venture:

    • Abby Rose Holistic Therapies
    • Milnrow Balti Restaurant
    • The Co-operative (Milnrow)
    • Morrison’s Stores (Rochdale)

We thank the "unidentified Disc Jockey" for an evening of constant excellent Disco music, the high light of which being an hilarious ‘unscripted’ vocal accompaniment to his version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – Queen by a choir formed of members (and friends) of the band, proving perhaps that they should stick to playing their respective instruments!

Louise Plant let it be known that owing to the lack of corporate sponsorship at present, a scheme was about to be launched to encourage individual supporters to become ‘Friends of Milnrow Band’ and that a presentation document would shortly be available to encourage local and perhaps national companies to provide sponsorship.

Louise went on to praise the assistance, support and guidance given to the band over the years by many people, not least by the present "Executive Committee", incidentally members of which have "racked up" a cumulative total of some 150 years loyal service to Milnrow Band between them.

Milnrow Band officials, committee and members wish to whole heartedly thank Milnrow Cricket Club, officials, members and staff for previous support and for use of their facilities on this occasion.

A brilliant evening that just shows how strong we are as a team and group of friends! Definitely a sore head or too the day after though!
