Hi I'm Ian, aka WoodenFlugel, welcome to tMP... :hi

I first heard about this fine forum when John (head honcho and all-round good guy) posted a message in the guestbook of a band I'd just been on tour with. I was hitting their website, looking for the photos of the tour and saw a message mentioning a discussion forum for banders. I thought I'd have a look to see what it was, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I've been with my current band for almost twenty years, possibly because no-one else will have me! As you can probably gather from my username I play Flugel, although I occasionally attempt to play a cornet or (if someone is really desperate) tenor horn.

Being a member here really sorted me out in terms of my playing. When I joined I wasn't sure whether I was going to continue banding or not, but taking part in the discussions rekindled my interest in playing. I'm now back to being a fully committed player - or should that be a player who ought to be committed?? Whichever, I'm loving every moment of my banding now. After about nine months of me being a member here I was asked to join "t'management" and become a moderator. It was an honour and a privilege to accept, as tMP is a very professionally run site, as I'm sure you will discover, or already know. So, donning my moderators hat for a moment, if there is anything you need help or advice here on tMP then just give me (or any other member of the team) a shout and I will do my best to help.

By day I'm a Mechanical Engineer which just confirms my geeky tendancies. I'm also a bit of a car nut, with a specific fetish for Italian cars (yes I'm a masochist as well as a geek...). I also like to watch motorsport, play badminton, hate gardening, love socialising, am far too competitve for my own good / talent, and also rather tall - 6'4" at the last count...

I've also realised I've gone on for far too long here so I'll shut up now. Thanks for reading this, once again welcome to any newbies - hello to you older members...

Not going to tell them the rest of the story behind your username?

In spite of all our conversations I never knew that. That is really quite awesome and shows "the power of tMP!!"

Erm well it's been said a few times in other threads before, but I suppose here is as good a place as any...(please insert the following into above profile where appropriate...)

I came about my username after some less than compliementary comments from an adjudicator, several years ago.
"Flugel plays in a wooden style"
I hated it at the time, and I guess because of that I started to be known as "Woody" etc to the members of my band. Now I just think its funny and I enjoy going out to prove Mr. ***** wrong (....hadn't better mention his name ;) )... sometimes I do sometimes (often? ) I don't. Anyway, when it came to registering there really was only one choice for my username.

Couldn't have put it better myself :D
