Marsden Band is delighted to announce the appointment of John Hinckley as their new Musical Director. Following the departure of Glyn Williams in the summer, Marsden Band has undertaken a search for the right person to take the band, and build on recent successes. After a number of applications and auditions from many accomplished and successful conductors, John has emerged as the outstanding candidate for the job. John Hinckley comes with a fine pedigree in the brass band movement. As a player John played flugel horn with the Brighouse and Rastrick band for 18 years, winning every major honour during that time. As a conductor, he was resident for five years with the hugely successful Marple Band, and conducted the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band for seven years, winning the Yorkshire Regional and Grand Shield contests, acknowledged as two of the most difficult contests to win. The band is excited about our future under John Hinckley, there was a big hole left following Glyn’s relocation and we are thrilled to have found someone of John’s experience and standing to take us forward John Hinckley - “The position at Marsden came along just at the right moment. I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue and build on the great foundation that Glyn Williams has given the band”. John will make his first official appearance with the band at this years Scottish Open Brass Band Championships in November.
