I was privileged to here the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Toronto on Friday evening. They played to a full hall and were outstanding. As a brass player, I was really impressed with the entire brass section which was outstanding to say the least. Lots of exposed wrtiting in the music played and all accomplished with great skill, particularly in the horn and trumpet lines. The music performed was: Chorale by Magnus Lindberg; Piano Concerto No. 3 (Prokofiev) with Jean-Efflam Bavouzet; and the Shostakovich 8th. They were conducted by principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski who was really economical in his direction; not a flamboyant conductor at all but there was no question he was in control. Just a great night of music by an orchestra that played so consistently to the highest level of professionalism.
