Looking a little festive

I have been through my village today and the Christmas lights are already twinkling away outside many houses.
Its kinda like Christmas tree ally down one street, a race to see who can be the first to put up the biggest and best looking tree! I'm never one to want to put my decs up early but I must admit I think we might be putting them up before the usual few days before Christmas day! I'm not Baaaah humbug after all!
One thing that I do think is a little O.T.T is the houses that have lights on ever available square inch of their exterior, what must their electricity bills be like! (its just like the Griswolds if any of you have seen that film! extremely funny!)
So, when are you all intending to put your decoration up?

Ours usually go up the last weekend before Christmas. Since Christmas eve falls on Sunday this year and we're away that weekend with the band anyway, I guess it'll be the weekend before.

I have to admit to being ultra sad though. I've picked up the christmas firefox add on so my screen looks nice and Christmassy. All I need now is for John to enable the tMP Christmas skin and I'm all set. :)

Although I'm being Christmassey making Christmas cards, our decorations don't go up until I finish work which is usually Christmas eve. This year they may go up on the Friday as I finish on the Thursday.

I am a founder member of the "Keep Christmas in Decmber" society. Baaah Humbug. One thing I really hate is Cheesy Christmas music especially when it goes in the pads in October.

Does anyone else find it odd that the same people who are going on about how we must always turn off lights when we leave a room, or suggesting that we should all ride a bike everywhere, are the same people who think that having vast amounts of lights on the outside of a house is a good idea.
The lights use up electricity at a great rate.
They contribute a great deal to the light pollution.
Two sorts of pollution that the world can do without.

    A few lights, no problem
The vast displays are just ridiculous.

Because they don't want to get sucked into the ridiculous commercialism that is the "Christmas experience".

What is this obsession with having to have a vast amount of lights/flashing santas/inflatable rudolphs?
If you want to spend money on decorations that only come out once per year, fine and dandy, but don't insist that everyone should do the same. Personally I would prefer everyone gives a little more to charity rather than put money into the hands of the Christmas decoration manufacturers.

unfortunatley you couldn't be further from the truth Trumpetmike.
In our house we dont put up decorations, you see we have a special visit from the christmas fairey. she has been watching the house all year and if we have been naughty NO decorations!
    BUT.
if we have been good they get put up overnight by her and her pixie friends.
My daughter absouletly looks forward to coming down stairs at some unspecified date to find the decorations all put up:biggrin:

    Christmas! i LOVE IT!!!!

Heres a dilema, Darrol put our Christmas tree up yesterday because I still can't stand up properly to do it myself. Its a brand new 6ft fibreoptic one, only thing is when the lights are turned on and flashing it looks brilliant and doesn't look like it needs anything on it. But when the lights are off it looks like a boring green tree.

Do I get Darrol to decorate it or leave it and have it lit up all the time (not that it matters as we don't pay the bills!)?

    Help me please.....
