The first concert of the New Year by the City of London Winds will include the premier of Concertante for Euphonium & Winds by Terry Treherne, played by Willson Euphonium Artist, Charley Brighton.

The single movement, pastoral style work was originally written for Charley with piano accompaniment, and premiered in a recital at St. Mary’s, Slough with Malcolm Stowell. Terry will be present to hear the piece in its new form, conducted by John Andrews, at St. Paul’s Covent Garden on the 10th. February.

Prior to that, Charley visits Virginia in America as a guest of Major Mark Hill of the USAF and euphonium player Tommy Yandle. Charley taught Mark and his sons whilst they were based at RAF Daws Hill in High Wycombe. He will present a Masterclass at the Thomas Dale High School as a guest of composer friend, Stephen Barton. Charley gave the UK premiers of his Twilight Shadows in both wind and ensemble settings a few years ago.

The trip will also take in Pennsylvania to visit Joe Miserendino, composer of The Willson Concertante Charley recently performed with The Southampton University Sinfonietta.
