LGB Brass replaces a National Institution!

On Tuesday 14th August, LGB Brass (3rd Sectional National finalist 2006) were heard replacing the chimes of Big Ben on Radio 4.

Big Ben is currently con sordini, due to scheduled maintenance, and Radio 4 asked for 1 minute sound bites evoking "the sounds of summer" to be sent into the website, to be played in place of Big Ben's chimes preceding the news.

LGB Brass, based in Lewes, East Sussex, recorded 'Sussex by the Sea', played live on Eastbourne bandstand, on Saturday 11th August. This was sent in to Radio 4 and they played it on the PM programme on Tuesday 14th August.

You can hear this by following the link below:
    go to www.bbc.co.uk
    select radio
    select radio 4
    select listen again
    select PM tuesday 14/8
    forward 3x 15 mins
    forward 13x1min to 17.58

LGB are justifiably proud that for the first time in their 85 year history, they have been played on National Radio.

Where SCABA bands lead, others can follow! Find a recording company that uses portable equipment and record something that evokes the sound of summer. Send it in to the Radio 4 website and hopefully raise the profile of brass bands in this country.

I bet it was really annoying to then be described as an Ompa band by an ignorant reader in a letter to the Sussex Express newspaper after a Proms concert.

Good response to that letter in last weeks edition Ian

Hope to see you at Folkestone.

Thanks for your support. We enjoyed it, as did Friary. I see from this weeks paper that our critic is still on the case!!
