Lewis Music Press and The Music Company Merge

    Following Andrew Duncan’s appointment last year as The Music Company’s Editorial Director, the exciting development of a merge between Andrew’s own publishing house, Lewis Music Press and The Music Company (UK) Ltd has now taken place. This amalgamation is deemed to be a highly positive move for both sides as it will now enable The Music Company to dramatically develop their business, expanding their catalogue with a further 80 titles to their collection, whilst enabling Andrew to focus on his editorial role, writing and conducting career.

    The company has been working hard towards the launch of their latest catalogue and are delighted to be able to incorporate the exciting additions provided by the Lewis Music Press merge. As a result, The Lewis Music Press website will close shortly, with all titles previously listed now being available through The Music Company’s latest catalogue and newly launched online shop.

    New Online Shop
    The merge of Lewis Music Press is being marked by the launch of a new online catalogue available at www.TheMusicCompanyShop.com. Through the use of technology, customers will have the ability to read detailed information about the catalogued pieces, view full sample scores, listen to sound files, set up accounts for their bands and experience a streamlined online shopping experience with a range of payment options, enabling customers to buy with confidence. It is also planned that each catalogue release will be available as an interactive CD-Rom/downloadable interactive program and as an up-to-the-minute downloadable .PDF file from the new online shop.

    Clair added “The Music Company has always striven to develop an organisation which will offer the world of music something new in content, presentation and support. Already being one of the key sponsors of the European Brass Band Championships, one of the Official Partners for The Big Blow 2007 charity event and a key supporter of Brass Band Aid through its publication of many of the donated compositions, The Music Company embraces many fundamental elements to ensure the development of quality music for the future. By using the strengths of the business and resources available to us we are able to continue the encouragement of new talent whilst at the same time providing established writers with an ideal arena for their compositions and arrangements.

I feel that the combined organisations can really make a difference to the world of music.”

    New Concept in Ensemble Music
    In addition to offering full brass band and concert band pieces, the company has also recognised the ongoing demand for music for ensembles and flexible instrumentation. Of special note are ‘Summer – from A Victorian Kitchen Garden’ for brass quintet and ‘La Danza’ for 10 piece, both of which have been effectively arranged by Steven Drury (previously with Black Dyke Band). Andrew Duncan’s own quintet arrangements, originally scored for performance by Halle Brass, are also now available.

    Following detailed research, the concept of The Flexi-Collection Series (based on 4-part harmony) is now fully developed, potentially forming the core repertoire of concert programmes for many of the junior brass and concerts bands around the world. Whilst it is targeted at Junior Brass and Concert bands, it lends itself well to bands of all standards requiring music for flexible instrumentation. The initial launch includes collections themed as ‘Last Night at the Proms’, ‘Popular Classics’ and three volumes of Christmas titles. One of the key interests for this collection is the ability for customers to compile their own Flexi-Collection album, where any six titles can be selected from the complete Flexi-Collection Series which are then printed to order to create a bespoke collection of music with a significant financial saving.

    Catalogue Highlights
    The Music Company are also extremely excited about the publishing of Andrew’s best selling book – ‘Scoring and Arranging for Brass Band’, and look forward to promoting a collection of exciting brass band titles, some highlights of which include Alan Morrison’s ‘1941 March’, Gareth Green’s ‘March from Colditz’, Philip Harper’s ‘Water of Tyne’ and Andrew Duncan’s ‘A Suffolk Prelude’ and ‘Zephyrus – The Big Blow March’.

    A comprehensive number of other titles will also be highlighted shortly, which will offer bands a broad range of styles to freshen up their forthcoming concert and contest programmes.

    The merge of The Music Company and Lewis Music Press, together with the launch of their online shop and exciting developments with new and established writers will now offer bands around the world an ideal resource for their music needs.
