In a couple of weeks my friend and I will be leaving our current jobs and moving away. We want to make a CD of leaving songs to play over and over on our last day. :)

Can anyone help us think of appropriate songs on the themes of 'leaving' 'goodbye' and 'please don't go'?

So far we have come up with the following possibilities:

    Good Bye
Mamas and Papas: Leaving on a jetplane
Bay City Rollers: Bye Bye Baby
    Beatles: Hello, Good-bye
Sound of Music: So Long, Farewell
    ?: Time to say goodbye
    Spice Girls: Goodbye my friends
Dirty Dancing: I’ve had the time of my life
    Communards: Never can say goodbye
N Sync/Backstreet Boys: Bye Bye Bye
Elton John: Candle in the Wind
Elton John: Good-bye Yellow Brick Road

    Moving On
    Queen: Don’t stop me now
    George Michael: Freedom
    M people: Movin’ on up
    Divine Comedy: National Express
    Steppenwolf: Born to be Wild
    Razorlight: Somewhere Else
?: we gotta get out of this place
    Robbie Williams: No Regrets
    Carpenters: We’ve only just begun
Frank Sinatra: I did it my way
Whitney Houston: I will always Love you

    Don’t leave us
Jackson 5: I want you back
    Pato Banton: Baby Come Back

I can only think of 'Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye' - The Ovaltineys. Probably not quite what you're after though

hehe, this sounds like a typical 'Dyl' choice - blunt and negative - good choice though! :)

These two will definitely make the CD! Thanks!

    Aww, don't be depressed. :(

Thanks for the suggestions, they're great! Keep them coming!

A few more for the melting pot:

Leave me now - Chicago (woo-oo-oo, no, baby please don't go!)
Leaving me now - Level 42
No Distance Left to Run - Blur
Leaving Las Vegas - Sheryl Crow (massively underrated song IMO with a great video too IIRC)
Don't Look back in anger - Oasis
    Leaving New York - REM
    Don't stop movin' - S Club 7
Half the World Away - Oasis
End of a Century - Blur (well not quite, but you know what I mean)
    Wanderlust - REM

I'll stop now as I think I might be getting a bit obsessed with this

    "Goodbye, goodbye, we're leaving you - tiddly-I - goodbye . . . goodbye
    (fa-ta-ta-ta, ta ta-ta-ta-ta)" ;)

I take it you mean the version featured on Stannington Brass Band's CD "And All That Brass", arranged by Timbone and played by myself?

How about this for a CD (I've actually thought about it and put them into an order.. how sad am I?

    Beatles - Ticket To Ride
Pet Shop Boys or Village People - Go West
Bernard Butler - People Move On
    Faithless - Why Go?
Bros - When Will I be famous - not sure if it has any relevance but it came into my head so I thought I'd better include it to make sure I'm not singing it for the rest of the day.
Freak Power - Running Away (fantastic tune with a great tromb solo in the middle)
    Moby - Go
The Clash - London Calling - maybe not relevant but it is good
Human League - Tell Me When (Will I See You Again)
Rozalla - Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)
M People - Movin on up
Totally Tropical - (Going to) Barbados (or the naff cover by the vengaboys Going to Ibiza)

Haha, never heard of it but it sounds great! Sounds very cheesy! I will definitely be hunting it down!

nah...I'm the sad one for making the CD

I love this song! When I was about 11 my friends and I decided we were going to start a pop band. This is one of the songs we tried to sing

Thanks for all of the ideas - I will post my final list of tracks that go on the CD when I have decided them. :)
