    Changes at Dobcross

With the new contesting season about to start, Dobcross Silver would like to announce a few new signings and changes within the band. Joining on the cornet line is Grenville Moore who joins the band to take on the role of assistant principal cornet whilst former principal cornet of Moston and Beswick, Kim Jensen, has taken the repiano seat. Caroline Tighe moves back on to the front row after a short spell on horn whilst Jo Ward has moved back on to the back row. Christina Saunders has relinquished the flugel seat to take the solo horn position, making way for David Moore who is the current principal flugel with the NYBBGB. David’s twin sister Helen (who is also a member of the NYBBGB) has joined on 1st horn and Jane Moore joins on 2nd horn from Stalybridge. Nigel Atwell takes over from John Collins (who has departed the band to concentrate on his conducting) on the solo euphonium seat and Phil Pavey has joined from EYMS on 2nd euphonium. Nigel’s “promotion” to the solo euphonium meant that the solo baritone seat was vacant. Clare Fawcett is welcomed as the bands new solo baritone. On the trombone line the band welcomes Peter Moore (also from Stalybridge) and Steven Bradnum joins as the band’s new bass trombone. Finally the band welcomes Danny Baldwin into the percussion section after a long association with the Fodens Richardson band.

The band is looking forward to the new contesting season and will be making its debut at both the Wychavon contest which is at the beginning of October and the Scottish Open at the end of November. Dobcross will also be making its second appearance at the Butlins Mineworkers contest in January 2006 and we are looking forward to getting stuck into St Magnus. 2005 also marks the bands 130th anniversary and so we will be holding a celebratory concert at the beginning of November to mark this momentous occasion. This is to be held at the Uppermill Civic Hall on the 4th. More details of this concert will be announced shortly. The band is currently performing at the Oldham Coliseum (13th to the 17th of September) in a new production of Brassed Off and we are also looking forward to making our concert debut at the Stroud festival next February.
