Dont know if this thread has been done previously. Having attended the open it struck home that there really are still all male bands around I wondered if an all star "girls of brass" would be a competitive top section band.

I can think of some excellent exaples of real top quality players but can we complete a line up? I think there could be some pretty tough chairs but I think we can do it. Here are some glaringly obvious ones........

    Sop: Michelle Ibbottson,
    Cornet: Kirsty Abbotts, Morvern Gilchrist,
    Flugel: Helen Fox, Joanne Deane
    Horn: Sheone White, Lesley Howie,
    Bari: Helen Tyler, Margie Antrobus,
    Eup:
    Trom: Becky Smith,
    Bass Trom:
    Eb Bass:
    BBb Bass:
    Percs: Simone Rebello

Can anyone copy / paste and add to this list until we have a full line up???

The Athena Brass Band consists of all excellent female brass and percussion players. Without wanting to slight any of the fine players in that band, some of the most recognized are Amy Nelson, principal cornet; Gail Robertson and Laura Lineberger, euphs, and Joanna Hersey, BBb Bass.

It would be rude of me not to Plug Claire Chalk (currently top seat at Ashton) of very famous banding stock. She is certainly holding her own for us at the moment...

Well there is a full band, 2 percs short but there are so many good female perc players I guess you could pick any 3 from over a dozen. Looks a bit like a tMp band with more horns and baris than you could ever need!! hehe

Now the tricky part......does anyone think this would be a competitive band at the Open / RAH Nationals?

ps.Players are listed in the order that their names were posted, no other.

further proof (if any were needed) that horn playing is for girls

obviously there are enough good individuals out there, but all-star ideas do tend to be handicapped more by logistics and egos than anything else

When we were plain old Yorkshire Co-op, we had a fantastic player on euph called Helena Platt, and another called Kym who suceeded her, both were absolute quality, and although I heard Kym is no longer playing, I think Helena is... anyone care to elaborate for me?
