Maybe strange but stick with me....

My dad recons his band is unique as the have a tenor horn player who knits during her bars rest and between pieces in rehersals.

We have a bet on whether anyone else does this.

Knowledge of knitting players required please

Mind you I have seen students revise for exams during rehearsals during bars rests, break and when the MD tries out sections of the band!

Sorry, Monday is crochet night, I'm afraid.

So do I before I take this seriously.

Monday nights, Chadderton Band, Betty on horn, I'm going to ask my dad to take a picture of her.

I have helped them out on a park job,and she knitted on the band-stand before, during the interval and after the concert - she did put the knitting down during the actual concert though.

I have to back Space Cowboy up on this one, as soon as I read the title of the thread I thaught 'that reminds me of a story I heard about a lady from Chadderton Band that I heard a few years ago'.

Then when I read the thread it looks like we are talking about the same person.
Although I have never seen her myself, I have heard of this before, so its not an April Fool's joke!

Reminds me of a story from many years ago, when conducting a Youth Band in Shrewsbury Quarry Bandstand. The Percussionist, an elder gentleman who was helping us out, thought nothing of lighting up his pipe and having a quick puff during one of the quieter pieces!

When in the Guards we quite frequently took part in the "1812" spectacular concerts at the RAH. Although we usually only had to play the second half of "1812" itself, it usually entailed sitting through an afternoon rehearsal with the orchestra. We'd normally be sitting directly behind the trombones and tuba, and there was always a range of activities going on right up until a bar or so before their entry, with the crossword or whatever being picked up again as soon as they finished blowing.

Arghhhh!!!! You in turn have reminded me of the Bb bass players in Eccles Borough band in the late 1970's with the bass propped on one leg and an ashtray on the other knee. Or if there was no ashtray, the ciggy was left burning on the edge of the music stand....
This was ALL the way through rehearsal...!!!

You never know Fi, it might actually be in time!
In which case, it might be the best use for a horn player!!!!!!

Only Joking! (Please don't hate me horn players!)
