This coming Sunday (9th November) sees the final of the Kippax Band Entertainment Contest taking place at the Kippax Band club. This contest has been kindly sponsored by Aqua Enviro for the second year running, allowing a fantastic 1000 pound prize money to be awarded to the winning band.

After three heats the three bands who have successfully fought their way through to the final are as follows

Drighlington Band were the winners from the first heat and come to the final under the direction of Kevin Belcher.

From the second heat come the Harrogate Band under the directorship of David Lancaster for the final time. David leaves the band after Sundays contest to join the Yorkshire Imperial Band.

Finally from the last heat come the EYMS Band under the baton of Jim Davies. EYMS come to the final buoyed by a fantastic result at the National Championships at the Albert Hall, coming 9th

All in all this promises to be an excellent final with all three bands being of the highest quality. Please arrive early to secure your seat!

The Band do hope that this contest will occur again in 2009 and are looking for interested bands to contact the Kippax Band Chairman as soon as possible to register their interest. Colin Moss- 01977 709901/

The Kippax Band social club was packed to the rafters for the final of this year’s entertainment contest series.

The East Yorkshire Motor Services Band scooped the £1000 first prize and the Kippax Band Entertainment trophy with Harrogate and Drighlington coming 2nd and 3rd respectively. Alan Morrison was again adjudicating the final for the second year and had praise and constructive criticism for all three bands. EYMS also took the soloist prize as Principal Cornet Neil Day put in a solid performance of El
Cumbancero, the band made it a clean sweep of the prize board with Principle Trombonist Mark Unsworth taking the best Instrumentalist trophy.

Kippax Band would like to thank Mark Lowe and Aqua Enviro for sponsoring this event for the last two years, and although they are unable to offer support for next year the band hope to be able to continue with a 3rd contest in the series.
