Festival Brass Band, one of Belgium's top section bands, has announced that conductor Juri Briat has chosen to end his cooperation with the band. The decision was taken in consultation with the band committee, and the band members would like to thank Juri for the fruitfull collaboration in the past years. Juri Briat had been conducting the Zemst-based band since 2001. Besides his job as publishing-editor with Beriato, the music publishing company that he co-founded in 1996, Juri will remain on duty as musical director of the Vlaams Fanfare Orkest.

The band is now looking for a new resident conductor. In the mean time, rehearsals are lead by Frank Vantroyen. Frank is a professional bass player and former member of Brass Band Midden-Brabant. Last year, Frank recorded a solo CD in co-operation with Festival Brass Band. He will also lead the band in three upcoming concerts.

And Festival Brass Band is not the only band from the region around Mechelen that's looking for a new conductor. Brass Band Hombeek (last year's organisers of the first Flemish Open Championships) has also announced that their conductor is resigning. Michel Leveugle, one of the best-known names in the Belgian brass band scene, has been conducting the band for more than 20 years. His last concert will be on February 25th in Mechelen, when the band will also welcome Katrina Marzella as guest soloist on baritone.
