Sad to belatedly report the death at the age of 77 on 2nd November of John Stevens, former Musical Director of the Eastbourne Silver Band, following a long illness.

John was involved in music his whole life, playing in the Royal Artillery Band during his National Service and remained there for a further 4 years.

He also had a spell as conductor at Uckfield Concert Brass and played also with them and many other local bands on Tenor Horn.

I love this quote from his wife Linda: “He was a very funny man and a great performer. He always used to ask the audience if any of them were from Yorkshire. If he got a response he would tell them ‘then what are you doing here, my wife is from Yorkshire and she is always telling me how good it is’".

Apologies for not posting this in time for any old friends to attend the funeral.
