Last weekend, 20-22 January, John Doyle was flown out to Holland to perform with the Provinciale Brassband Groningen. The concert was part of their annual New Years Concert series. The PBG band celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2005. The trip was organised by Kor Niehof, the Bands Chairman. John performed a number of solos including the Barry Concerto, Doyles Lament by Peter Grahem, Napoli, Children of Sanchez, and a world premiere of New York New York, an arrangement for Flugel and band completed by John himself. The concert went down a treat, with many of the audience having been at the European Brass Band Championships held in Groningen in April 2005. John commented, "What an experience it was performing with one of the premiere brass bands in Holland. The professionalism and standard of playing would give many brass bands in Britain a real run for their money. The technique and sheer musicality of their Musical Director, Sietse Hamersma added to the wonderful experience. Some incredible solo playing from Richard Visser on Sop, Johan van der Laan on Principal Cornet, Lida Boiten on Assistant Principal cornet, Aldrik van der Ploeg on Solo Horn, Sandra Beijert on Flugel and Jeroen Zijlstra on Solo Euph firmly placed PBG in the class of any top section British band. Be warned Britain!!" John will also be performing with Brass Band Buizingen under the direction of Luc Vertommen in their Valentines concert next month.
