Hi All - Robs Cystic Fibrosis Head Shaving Campaign

I don't often do this, and in fact I don't remember doing this personally on tMP at all. However - just this once - I want to make a genuine, and heartfelt personal appeal, to everyone here on tMP. Jen and I have two very good friends - Rob and Liz, who quite simply are the salt of the earth. They have a son, Mason who is a gem and an absolutely smashing young lad. [imgleft]http://www.themouthpiece.com/images/Heather_Mason5.png[/imgleft]Mason is the same age as Heather our daughter, they are in the same class at school, and in fact, they have been 'girlfriend and boyfriend' for as long as I can remember. Heather adores him, and simply loves him loads, always referring to Mason as... "her boyfriend" and... "her best friend ever".

Though a lively, active and extremely bright young lad, Mason has Cystic Fibrosis, and undergoes a daily regime of physiotherapy, nebulised antibiotics, inhalers, oral antibiotics, nutritional supplements, vitamin supplements and oral medication to aid digestion. On a good day he takes in excess of 30 tablets and has an hour-and-a-half of intensive physiotherapy (and that is when he is well). Remember, this is a daily regime.

[imgright]http://www.themouthpiece.com/images/Heather_Mason4.png[/imgright] Despite Masons condition, and all they go through on a daily basis, Rob and Liz would do anything for anyone - seriously, I mean it, they would do anything for anyone. They are always more than willing to offer helping hands and assistance to those who need it. We have already arranged that in a few months when he is 17, Liz will be teaching Lloyd to drive, and Rob will be giving him a well deserved hiding for all the cheek and teenage 'bring it on then' lip that Lloyd regularly gives Rob :)

Rob has on many occasions worked tirelessly to raise money for various charities, and is currently on a campaign to raise even more money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by having his head shaved - totally bald! Hence, I am making this personal appeal to you all today for you to please consider supporting Rob in his wonderful campaign. He has a target of just £1,000 - which is huge for Rob, but with the help and fantastic support I know we can get from all our friendly tMP'ers out there, I am certain we can help Rob surpass that amount. You can access the campaign page Rob has created by clicking here - Robs Cystic Fibrosis Head Shaving Campaign.

[imgleft]http://www.themouthpiece.com/images/Heather_Mason6.png[/imgleft] Us banders and brass enthusiasts are super folk, and though I know many people are after our money for a range of good causes, for me, this is the campaign I want to use tMP to promote as much as possible in an attempt to help Rob surpass his target. I know we can do it. Please consider visiting Robs link here - Robs Cystic Fibrosis Head Shaving Campaign - and donating as much or as little as you can afford, any amount will be beneficial and will add to the total.

You see some photographs in this thread of Heather and Mason over the years - and one can easily see how much they totally adore each other. So come on everyone, let me get to you, let me badger you and convince you to please consider visiting the link and donating whatever amount you can afford - and let's show Rob and Liz that the banding word cares... and cares immensely. Also, do let us know if you came and donated from tMP yeah :)

I will keep this thread updated regularly with the amount generated, so go on... please consider helping us here, please visit the link, and please help. Thank you one and all.

I spotted this thread a while ago but I've been waiting for a few things to iron out before I posted.

For those of you that don't know, Mrs JessopSmythe delivered me a lovely baby girl just under 2 months ago. About a month ago, while I was at work, Annie had a phone call from the health visitor to say that she'd be bringing a specialist on her routine visit later in the day as something had shown up in the "p.rick-heel" tests (baby blood tests) that they needed to discuss.

The specialist turned out to be an expert in CF and had come to tell us that Meghan had tested positive as a carrier for the disease and that they had to carry out further tests to determine whether she is "just" a carrier or if she has the disease.

After a stressful few days, Annie & her mum took Meghan to the hospital for the definitive test which proved inconclusive due to her tender age. We were told to re-book for about a months time.

We finally went for the re-test this week after a few weeks of worrying and doing a fair bit of research into CF, the symptoms etc. The relief when the test proved negative was almost a physical force.

Having had the problems associated with CF brought to my attention in such a way made it impossible for me to ignore this campaign, especially since I had already begun to consider ways in which I could help the various CF charities.

I'll be donating to Rob's campaign now and almost certainly looking for some tMP support for a fund raising / awareness campaign of my own later in the year.

    Thanking you!

Hi John, and everyone who has read this thread and donated.
I think I am over the overwhelming emotional patch I was going through. It has taken me a while to post on here, I was an emotional wreck for a few weeks. There was a lot going on in my head and I was completely overwhelmed by the support, not only to myself but for Mason. It was like one of those reality checks you get when you least expect it. Then it takes a while to get over it. It has shown me there are some really genuine nice people still out there.
Anyway, before I get emotionally carried away again, I would personally like to thank everyone on this site for their support and generosity. With your help we have managed to raise a staggering £577 online with a further £199 offline. I can also say my family and friends have been collecting and from what they have said roughly adds up to over £200. So we are almost there! Only 2 weeks to go before the doomsday!
Again thank you so much for your support , we can not describe how much we appreciate it.
    Rob, Liz and Mason.
