james bond arrangements

Discussion in 'The Rehearsal Room' started by madandcrazytromboneguy, Apr 13, 2006.

  1. which james bond song do you think would make a good solo to be arranged for soloist and brass band, and for which brass band instrument would you arrange it for?

Mods, please merge threads with pieces that shouldn't be done for bands!

I've always thought the theme from Casino Royale would be good, but I've never managed to get around to it.

  5. 2 points to make here

firstly, not a bad idea about casino royale, although isnt that coming out next year in a film starring the 1st ever blond bond? lol

secondly, bayerd, this thread is actually a serious 1 which only requires positive reaction, not negative trash like your post, so if you dont like the idea of james bond themes being done as arrangements, then just stay away from the thread, simple as!

Don't be so touchy - it was a JOKE! (I think)

  7. i aint so sure that it was, if it was a joke, then it would have probably been followed up by a serious suggestion, and it wasnt, that backs up my arguement for asking for some serious suggestions to the question in hand.

Clive, take a step back, this was done in jest, which is fine! If you want this to remain a serious thread, then that is also fine, but no need to class it as negative trash! Lighten up....

My input is this, 'For Your Eyes Only' would be a fantastic euph or flugel solo, thinking about doing it myself, but probably wouldn't do it justice!

Already done for Flugel - haven't heard it though.

My suggestion: "Licence to Kill" for taekwandoing trombonists! And that's a joke btw Clive! ;)

Let's all chill here eh, before this thread gets out of hand on the first page.

Just Music are showing two arrangements one by Jan van Kraeydonck and the other by Darrol Barry. Like I say. never heard either of them, but pretty sure I heard/read somewhere that one is for flugel.

  13. for your eyes only, nice melody, lacks bassline in the real song tho doesnt it?, that part of the piece would have to made up by the arranger i think

licence to kill, great song, bit long tho, think its over 4 minutes long, and if my memory serves me right, its 1 of the longest j.b. songs done so far, with only tomorrow never dies, goldeneye, and living daylights being over 4 mins aswell

and dyl, im chilled here, no problem, just dont like people posting posts on my threads that are not helpful in any shape or form

case closed, thread reopened for business, of the positive and interesting posts kind ;) :)

sorry, correction, threads created by me, owned by john.

The Darrol Barry version is the flugel solo. And from what I remember from playing it the bass line is ok!

What about "Thunderball"? Has a great ending too! (I believe that in the recording of the final version for the film, Tom Jones actually collapsed to the floor at the end of that long, high, strong note - you wouldn't want to do that yourself though!!)

  16. Edited.

back to the topic, the james bond collection includes a nice breif trombone solo of spy who loves me nobody does it better, could that be expanded into a full solo for trombone?

From Russia with Love for Trombone perhaps?
Would also give you scope to arrange auxillary parts.

  22. what do you mean exactly when you say arranging auxillary parts, are you saying that just the melody would be taken from the original and then all other parts be written completely from scratch?

and john ive changed the addy to brassbandzman@yahoo.co.uk

i changed it after you asked the 1st time, ive not had that mozman 1 you mention for absolutely ages!
