Brilliant! There are one or two around here (or will be - they're not rigged yet)

Can we post (small) pics on tMp of any special ones we find (there's one on our road - in the next hamlet - that's quite special :) )

You'll see a section on that site entitled 'Light Up Your Home'. I'd like to light up that home in the photo. All it would take is a can of petrol and some matches....

    :)

We have an amaaaaazing one our village. Everything lit up, inside and out! And he adds something new every year. Apparently there's a handicapped child lives across the road and he enjoys doing his house up to make this child happy, and he sits in his wheel chair all day captivated. Awww ain't that nice.

    That is nice.

We have one in Reading who is being threatened with an ASBO because he lives in a private road and the neighbours don't like the constant stream of visitors! He does it to raise money for a local charity, Daisy's Dream. Makes the front page of the local newspaper with his display every year.

I don't have any objection to this ostentatious display of personal wealth if it is done in the name of charity or some other good cause. However, we all know that most of these jerks just want to show off how crass and tasteless they are and accelerate global warming and light pollution at the same time.

Their electricity bills must be astronomical.

    Bah Humbug

I don't really "do" Christmas. (My hubby and I don't buy each other pressies). We did get a tree last year but some years I don't bother with any decorations let alone fancy lights on the outside of the house.

My Parents are the opposite and their house lights up the whole road. Mum even stuffed an adult Santa suit last year to sit in their Gazebo, which was then decorated to look like Santas grotto. All their friends Grandkids came round to see it!!
I do like it when other people bother though - so long as they keep it to December only!!

 .... I'm glad that only a few houses in my area get the full monty! (maybe the high winds this year might put a few of them off!). Imagine a street full of houses like the one in the first post?

I think last year my next door neighbours and then their next door neighbours did one together, it was actually quite nice. Although they put it up in November :| By comparison ours are rubbish but the other side next door neighbours are probably the prettiest they have proper candles in the window. So do all the older people opposite us. Theyre up in all the shops and in town *gets bored with Christmas*

There's loooooooooooads round here! There's pretty much every house on three big estates that smothers there house in lights of all description, how lovely!

There's also a VERY famous one just a bit further away, they decorate their whole bungalow, the front lawn, and have a 'grotto' in their garage, they put alsorts of different things each year, last year they had a MASSIVE stable! They also have huge masses of light up thingamys in all the windows, and invariably there's musical thingamy's too! They raise shed loads of money for the air ambulance though!

Theses same people have life size, cows, horses, pigs, geese, donkey's you name it in the front drive all year round, and a little thatched cottage thingy too! They only moved too the are about 3 years ago and it was a great source of amusement to begin with as every time you drove past they'd added something else to the minagery!

I went right off Xmas a few years ago (the crass commercialism, the over-indulgence, the hypocritial do-gooding) but these days I find myself becoming entranced with the thought of silver fibre-optic trees and gay pink and gold santas. I think it's having a small child in the house that does it. She's really getting into Xmas and if I can make her happy by trolling round the village looking at tasteless displays of electrical tat, then so be it.
I refuse to do it to my own house though... bah humbug.

Always a treat on the journey to band in december to contemplate that why we are rehearsing tat to play, people have alredy got it up in electric form. Most of the stuff people have up is terrible, even more offensive than Baernardts!

My partner always goes for the christmas lights in a big way...nothing like that displays shown in the posts above, but still more than I'd have...anyway, when we got together she always said there was one local house in particular that had inspired her to put so many lights up around the house and garden because she'd always been amazed at how good their house had looked...imagine my dismay when realising I now lived near enough to a relatives house to post their Christmas card by hand that it was in fact their house she had taken inspiration from  !!! Talk about crestfallen!! :( I was gutted!!

I'll be posting their card this year!!

It's the amazed fascination factor...I'm terrified of spiders but if there's one to look at I can't take my eyes off it.

You can't help but look at a chavs bling, wondering how on earth he finds it the least bit good looking

And if someone is wearing a syrup, you just can't help but stare, hoping to see it lift in the wind or something.
