The Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band are celebrating after they gained the runners up spot at the Midlands Area contest in Bedworth for the second year running to send them to the Fourth Section National Finals in Cheltenham in September.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "to achieve the runners up spot for the 2nd year running is a huge achievement by everyone involved with the band. We would also like to thank our sponsor Conceptunet Ltd for their continued support”

The band would also like to thank Colin Hamilton Martin who has stepped down from the principal cornet chair after 4 years with the band due to family and work commitments. We are currently excepting applications for the vacant seat. But in the meantime would like to announce George Newbould will be moving from the rep chair to lead the band at the up and coming Buxton Contest. We would also like to welcome Rob Bradshaw to the front row cornet line and Ernest Moncell on to 2nd Trombone.
Some other news is that the band are once again holding their battle of the bands contest on Sunday 17th June in Staveley Chesterfield open to 3rd/4th and unregistered bands and are pleased to announce that Colin Hardy will be the adjudicator for the day.
We are also pleased to announce that the previous day will be the band’s first ever solo, duet and quartet contest open to all sections and David Hirst will be the adjudicator for the day. For more details for any of these events please visit the bands website
