    Hi John.

I know. I do a lot of hosting support on the Internet.

I also purchased my own Server for £700, Dell Server, and have that located in a Data Center. As I do support for that company, I get a very good deal. However, even with a co-lo Server, you can still be paying £100 a month.

This is fine when it is to run a business. It is hard to justify when it is to provide a free service though.

Perhaps you could think about financing something like this through Band associations with the MouthPiece? Or even through a grant with the regional or main BB bodies in the UK?

Performance seems to be fine for me, even though it's transatlantic. Perhaps there's a slow Internet segment somewhere in the UK that's bogging things down for some of you.

No problems here - working at normal speed (on 256 ADSL).

    Hi John,

What route is taken depends on your ISP and area in the Country. However, any Server in the US is always going to be a little slower to access.

Yes, I get a very similar trace route (slightly slower if anything), but for some reason I haven't noticed anything to be slower, other than the odd page, but you expect that occaisionally (once a dayish).

my average loading time for a page to be fully loaded is about 2-3 seconds, longest being about 5, then about 10 seconds once a day.

    UPDATE:

Just a quick update for you all regarding propgress of the .com domain transfer. Unfortunately, my previous webhost seems to be holding things up somewhat, and I am experiencing trouble transferring the main .com domain. I tried to minimise downtime of tMP by transferring the .co.uk domain before I moved servers, which everyone is now using, then transfer the .com domain. The .co.uk domain took around 12 hours to transfer and work, whereas I initially requested the .com transfer a week ago and it is still not done.

I have reported the issue no less than 5 times and will continue to badger my previous webhost until it is successfully completed.

    Thanks for your patience.

In all seriousness though John, you and your team of moderators do a sterling job, and I don't know what I'd do now without tMP to air my idiotic waffle. Keep bashing those nasty web hosts!! :D

    Wednesday Update

    Hi Folks...

A quick update on the status of the .com domain transfer. It at last looks as though my previous webhost has moved off their bums and have instigated the .com domain transfer. The temporary holding page that I set up - (redirecting you to .co.uk) seems to be no longer available, well it is unavailable from my ISP anyhow ;)

It is my guess that the final propogation of the .com domain is underway and that we will soon be able to revert our links back to the (in)famous themouthpiece.com ... :)

Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

EDIT: I am informed by several tMP'ers that the .com is back...:) I won't announce formally until I see it myself though... hehehe

I have a small problem here John.

Any pm's that I send, don't appear to leave my outbox.
Also, everytime I click on 'posts since last visit', whatever the amount says, there is always the ' no topics met with your search' message.

Any ideas how I can cure this please?

    Hi John
I can get it with .com as well...just tried it and hey presto.

    Hey Kev...

    RE: PM's
... these actually stay in your Outbox until the person who you have sent the PM to actually logs into tMP. As soon as they do so, the PM gets sent and a copy is moved to your Sent box.

RE: Latest Posts... It sounds like a cookie issue and you may need to clear out all the cookeis on your machine as well as any temp files. If you're using IE it's:

    Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies

Once you have done this, close any open IE browsers, relaunch IE and when you visit tMP to post new or reply, you will be asked to log into tMP again, and all should then be OK.

    Hope this helps...

Moy: Excellent.... I seem to have access from here in Amsterdam tonight as well... wohooo at last we're sorted and I can sleep easily now. Well.... until the next stage in tMP development that is, which incidentally ... come closer... come one... is only just around the corner...;)
