A few years back I had a couple of years off band that corresponded to a phase of getting fit. I got myself a racing bike (hard to believe if you see me now) and joined a club. I didn't do too badly so long as we avoided steep hills and I ended up as an Ok club time triallist and did some long distance rides (200 miles in a day was the most). I thought, what if I'd taken this up when I was 16? Has the world been robbed of a great cyclist (doubt it!)?

What could you have been good at / famous for / got rich at if you hadn't spent countless hours at band?

    A number of things!

I was very good at netball and badminton-used to play for my county teams until I gave it for band.

Also Dance (jazz). If I hadn't given it up I would still have been thin and fit, which are two things that I'm not but aspire to be now!

I would be playing Rugby if I wasn't into music.
Thing is, I want to do it now, but don't want to lose any teeth or have an injury that affects my embouchure.

I wouldn't be a pro, but I would be doing a lot of it at amateur level.

a champion fuchsia grower. Instead I have to settle for the runner-up title every year cos between work and band I just don't have time to do what should be done to get the title
