i know it's early but.... Xmas descants....

    does anyone know where i can get hold of some descants for the popular xmas carols? and if possible in Eb?

    The most popular choral descants to christmas carols that I have come across are the Wilcocks arrangements. If you can get hold of the choir parts for these and transpose accordingly. Note that they may or may not work, depending on the arrangements of the carols you are playing. The descants are written to compliment the harmonies used by the rest of the ensemble parts.

    you would have thought that each of the "xmas carol" books would have a descant book assoiscated with it .................

    apprantly the "old " christmas praise book had them for soprano?

    Can supply (no charge) a Sop Descant for:

    Away in a Manger
    Once in Royal David's City
    While Shepherd's Watched

    Will also supply the underlying harmony. The descant may well need to be altered if the underlying harmony is different. Could be a useful starter though.
