How do you divide up your private rehearsal time with your test pieces? Right now, we've got the Butlins and Area test pieces on the stand. I find all my private practice time is devoted to them. Is anyone still managing to fit in technical practice, or does that go by the wayside at this time of year?

    You're sleeping too much!

Ha ha. Yeah, guess I could always skip that whole sleeping malarkey.

I've read or heard a few well know brass players comment on the importance of a regular technical routine. Kenny Ball was one who got away from it and paid the price much to his regret. There's got to be a balance somehow.

Have a look at it 2 weeks before, find the bits you can't play, practice til you can, do the job! Easy!

But it's not just about you playing your part, it's more important for the section/band to play together. It's very rare for adjudicators to pick out individual mistakes they usually judge on the band as a whole.
