What I mean is how many players with skills/contacts/etc that you could need to call on.

    In my band we have:

    A plumber

    A policeman (Senior Rank)

A rep for a musical instrument supplier

A plasterer (have you ever tried to plaster a cieling?)

the rest of us are pretty useless !

I think it would only take 2 to change a lightbulb in ours so we're pretty skilled.

Lots of us in our band work with kids and quite a lot of the band are kids.

Having a coach driver can be handy.

We have a nurse, and also a coffin maker - not sure if there's any link there or not?! - and an engineer with the electricity board who worked a 25 hour stint last week during the bad weather that saw 10,000 homes without power. Also a number of students (none of them of any practical use according to some folks), and teachers (ditto?!).

Lots of students - don't know what they are useful for!!

We have 3 town planners (including myself), so we're sorted if anyone needs to build anything...

Other than that, a chef, 4 or 5 teachers, a fundraising expert (always useful), a IT guy, a chemist, an accountant (useful) and an audio engineer (also useful!), are the jobs which immediately spring to mind.

Two members of the police force
One solicitor's clerk (who in a previous life held senior positions with British Gas)
    Teachers
    Drivers
    Accountants
    University lecturer (and external examiner)
    Retired builder
    Marine engineer
    Military musician
    Students
    IT experts
    Architect
    Retired probation officer
    Photographer
Owner of an international freight operator
Management consultant - and archery coach!
Manager of accommodation and support for merchant seamen
    Security officer

(we also had a former member who would delight in inventing interesting jobs when away with the band, including dolphin trainer and brain surgeon!!!)

Several of theskills above are actually very useful, although possibly more in the wider sphere of church life than specifically within the band. We are currently planning an extension for storage which has been drawn up by our architect, and which will be fitted out by members of the band, saving several thousands of pounds. We also have a "tame" coach driver who is part of our songster brigade, so we never have problems when a coach is needed.

    which one are you Rob?

Sorry i forgot we Really do have a drug dealer who plays cornet but he is often away in Guernsey... Yes really. And our brand new solo trom player comes from there. Is this a conspiracy?

Hmm, sounds like the new solo trom player is a bit of a transporter! He doesn't drive a BMW does he?

I wish we'd really got a drug dealer, I'm in desperate need of some decongestant.

Let me see, we have a couple of music and instrument teachers, a composer (!), lots of students (secondary school/university) and a mechanical engineer ( ;) )

Luckily we also have some usefull members; like someone who sells hearing aids (handy if you have to sit in front of the trombones!) and a couple of local business owners (good way of getting to know potential sponsors!). Our chairman is a member of the city council (although his party is in the minority) and our treasurer is also the head of the finance department of the city. Having close ties with the local government is always handy ;)
