The Holme Valley Brass Band Festival will be holding their inaugural Slow Melody Competition in Holmfirth Civic Hall on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd April 2011. The ever-popular Holmfirth Contest takes place the following day and has attracted an excellent entry across the three sections which will guarantee a full day’s entertainment, however the organisers are not resting on their laurels and have decided to launch the Slow Melody in order to encourage participation from young (and not so young) players from around the area across the weekend. Slow Melody Organiser, Graham Bates commented: “The Festival has enjoyed a new lease of life recently and we hope the Slow Melody competition will become an integral part of the weekend in the years to come”. He added: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Sandy Smith, former Solo Horn at Black Dyke and current Resident Conductor of Brighouse & Rastrick Band, to be our adjudicator, and we look forward to welcoming friends, old and new, to the Civic Hall for an afternoon of friendly competition”. The proceedings will begin at 1.00pm and there will be sections for 11 & under; 14 & under; 16 & under; Open Age and Veterans. Refreshments will also be available.
