Heritage in Brass - ‘…A Step Back In Time…’

Whilst the number of quartet competitions has gradually gone down over the last 50 years. Many of the pieces that the present day quartet parties play are still the same pieces that were played back in the halcyon days of the quartet contesting era.

This new CD which features players who have collectively over 260 years experience in the world of brass playing, have joined together to produce this unique quartet party recording.

When it was suggested by Huug Steketee the international trumpet and cornet player who is based in the Netherlands that the old quartets should be recorded. He left his friend writer and publisher Chris Helme to put the party together, but which players would you invite to record this special CD.

Chris looked no further than three of the most experienced and respected quartet players in the business to join with Huug in this production: James Shepherd, William Rushworth and Lyndon Baglin. These players after the initial approach had no hesitation is giving the project a resounding, yes. It was collectively decided that the quartet party should have a musical director and advisor. Fewer people in the band world have had as much experience as James Scott, he too was very keen to join the illustrious gathering for what is hoped to be just the first of these collaborative productions.
