My name is Mark Godfrey and I've been playing in brass bands since 1875(ish). (ok, since around 1983)

Currently enjoying playing soprano with Woodfalls concert brass.

Would like to say a special hello to anyone who was in the hampshire youth bands in the glory years of the late 80s!

Also willing to share hints regarding playing sop.

Currently have a big concert coming up on 22 April 2006, check out the calendar!

    Have fun and enjoy band!

more like split in my case!

i use a yamaha 7C (thanks to chris sharp, for the mouthpiece, not the splits)

Do you like playing Cavelliera Rusticana - that tune from the Godfather?

Hi, it's nice to see (another) fellow sop on TMP! I tried a 7c once and that was enough for me :) I play on a schilke 14a4a at the moment, I find it a nice easy blow across the full register.

    hi ya

isn't the sop part either really excellent or really crummy with not much in between, depending on how knackered your lips are?

    Depends who's playing it, mate!!!
    Couldn't resist!
You seemed to do alright when you depped for us the other day but having never really played Sop for any great length of time, I can't offer many tips.

yes i always try to "pace" myself, even if it means pretending to play when the front row is blasting out your notes in the same octave :)
