The 5th Heritage Gala Concert was a great success. The band was led by Gareth Brindle through a varied programme including The Magic Flute, Crimond, Festive Overture, Caravan and Procession to the Minster. The bands guest soloist Leslie Howie gave outstanding performances on Tenor Horn of Nocturno, The Piper o' Dundee and A Time for Peace. Leslie finished with a stunning performance of the Finale from Mendelssohn's violin concerto.

The 5th March Contest was won by Marsden Band, with section prizes going to City of Bradford, Elland and Greenfield. The best youth band was Elland Youth, who also had Best Instrumentalist in Tom Fox. Uppermill picked up the Deportment prize. We were again blessed with a beautiful sunny day, if a little breezy! Many thanks to all our sponsors and participating bands for another great contest.

The contest was brought to a close by the Drighlington Band playing a moving rendition of Crimond. This was a tribute to Mr Alan Bottomley, President of the Hedben Bridge Band, and the man with the original vision for a march contest in the town, who was lost to us all recently. Alan would have been very proud again today that his dream has become a reality. The band was delighted that Alan's son Paul was at the contest to present the Alan Bottomley Memorial Sheild to the overall winners, Marsden.
