    The Hawthorn Band is proud to anounce that Howard Ward is thier new MD.

    Howard Ward is now appointed as Hawthorn Band’s newest Musical Director. Howard is well experienced and qualified to take Hawthorn band through a new era of banding having a background in a variety of musical genres including playing the piano, cornet, guitar through to performing and conducting gospel and professional ensembles.

    Notably, Howard played the Trombone and Euphonium with the Royal Military College Band (Canberra) for several years. During this time he developed a love for arranging and composition and have maintained this interest ever since. During this time was contracted as Musical Director or keyboardist for several stage musical productions in Canberra. After a period studing with the Armed Forces School of Music in the USA, Howard returned to Australia as a Commissioned Officer with the Australian Army Band Corps. He has held several positions including Music Director of the Army bands in Adelaide and Sydney. Howard was also appointed Deputy Music director and Choirmaster for the Army's 1988 Bi-centennial Tattoo. Before his retirement from the Army, Howard was promoted Lieutenant Colonel and appointed as Commandant of the Defence Force School of Music and Director of Music (Army).

    Hawthorn Band is looking forward to an exciting and productive musical association with Howard having the 2005 National Contest being his first target.

    Hey Fitzy, has he ever heard a brass band?

    He grew up in salvo brass bands. He is doing really well so far. Very musical.
