On Friday 9th September The Harrogate Band will be performing in a Variety Show at the Conference Centre to help raise money for the restoration of the town's Royal Hall. The show will be introduced by comedian Tom O'Connor and will include (professional) singing, dancing, comedy and magic acts - it promises to be a good night out. Tickets are available from the Conference Centre Box Office 01423 537230. (Maybe there will be one or two of you who would like to hear a band playing in the Conference Centre to get an idea of the acoustics prior to the finals weekend - it's a very strange place to play!)

The Royal Hall is one of the finest concert halls in the north of England: it is a magnificent building with wonderful acoustics. It has been closed since 2001 owing to structural problems but Lottery money has now enabled a significant restoration to take place. However whilst this will correct the structural problems it is left to a local group - the Royal Hall Restoration Trust - to raise money for furnishings, decoration, bar etc. Black Dyke and Brighouse bands are regular visitors to the hall and no doubt there will be other concerts and contests held there when it reopens in June 2007. It's a cause worth supporting: www.royalhall.org
