The GresleyColliery Band are very pleased to announce the appointment of thier New Principal Cornet Player:Sheila Winter who has taken up the position with immediate effect joining from Ratby Co-op Band.

She takes over the vacant seat that was vacated by Fran Bowman in October.

Sheila brings a vast ammount of experience with her to the position having started playing at the age of 5 years old. Sheila recently had to relinquish her chair at Ratby due to work obligations, although this was to the advantage of Gresley Colliery Band.

Gresley Colliery Band conductor Richard Grantham said that he was "Very pleased to welcome a player of Sheila's quality and ability on Principal Cornet". Sheila comes from a well known brass band family with her two elder brothers:Martin & Brian playing for some of the top bands in the country Desford, Brighouse&Rastrick and Fodens.

Since the appointment of Richard Grantham Gresley Colliery have attracted several new signings with all the positions having been filled by advertising on and 4 Bars

    These appointments are:
David Brough(Front Row Cornet) from Ibstock
    Lucy Meadows(2nd Baritone)
    Sonja Runagle(2nd Trombone)
Sarah Dawn (3rd Cornet) wife of bands Soprano Cornet Ian Dawn.

Also, a promotion has been made as well this is Matthew Kirkby who as moved from 3rd Cornet to 2nd Cornet filling the vacant position with his brother Richard going to University in September.

Gresley Colliery Band are looking forward to a good festive season with plenty of plans for 2007, as they now are preparing for Butlins Contest in January 1st Section.

Since the appointment of Richard Grantham in August the last 4 months have seen a considerable and immense improvement in the standard of playing and concert ability.

With the new signings made in the last few months the band have now a full compliment of players and are looking forward to a very Happy 2007 in all aspects of banding.
