Krohnengen Brass Band took first place at this year's Grenland Brassfestival in Skien, Norway, ahead of Brassband de Wâldsang Buitenpost from the Netherlands.

The contest takes place over two days and consists of three parts: a "church concert", a set test piece (this year it was 'The Undaunted' by Eric Ball) and an own choice programme. The second and third part take place in the city's beautiful "Peer Gynt-Salen" concert hall.

Krohnengen and De Wâldsang both achieved a total of 281 points out of 300, but Krohnengen got 1 point more on the set piece, and was proclaimed the winner. The soloist prize went to De Wâldsang's Willem van der Leest for the performance of "Memories". Third and fourth place went to Tertnes (263,5 points) and Oslofjord (262 points) respectively. Provinciale Brassband Groningen from the Netherlands was also supposed to take part, but they had to withdraw at short notice due to an injured soprano cornet player that could not be replaced.

Brassband De Wâldsang was also asked by the contest organizers to replace Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklag at the galaconcert. As part of this concert, a new piece by Sigurd Jansen called 'Shining Brass' was premiered. The piece was especially commisioned for the occasion by the contest organizers.
