At a time when most brass band clubs are finding problems in filling their rooms for their weekly concerts and when most brass bands are struggling to make ends meet without the aid of local sponsorship, it is refreshing to find that some of our senior brethren are making every effort to ensure that the ‘grass roots’ of the band movement are given every assistance.

Even though some of our more famous bands are themselves struggling to find sponsorship and even though they themselves are often in need of money which comes through performing regular concerts for realistic fees, certain of these bands are still prepared to help out the bands which find themselves in need of fundraising events.

Two such bands (veritable Goliaths in the brass band world) have agreed to perform at the Wood Street bandroom of Glossop Old Band. Faireys Band are appearing on Sunday 11th December and in the New Year (Sunday 29th January) the current National Champions Leyland Band will be appearing. Both these concerts commence at 8.00pm. and have been made possible due to the generosity of the directors of these bands, for which Glossop Old Band, and I am sure many other band clubs are deeply grateful.

It is this kind of short term commitment from our top bands which will ensure the future prosperity of the small clubs, from which come the stars of tomorrow.

Tickets are available from the bandroom at £5 for tickets bought in advance and £6 on the evening

Excellent news and and an extremely generous gesture by Faireys and Leyland Bands.

It's so good to see the top bands openly supporting the grass roots of the Brass movement.
