On Saturday 7th July the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association (GBBA) will celebrate its 75th Anniversary with a day of music making in the grounds of Highnam Court, Gloucester, GL2 8DP, by kind permission of the owner, Mr. Roger Head. Built in 1658, the grounds of this truly magnificent house are a perfect setting to celebrate this milestone in GBBA history.

Twenty of the GBBA member bands will perform a rolling concert during the day with the first band playing at 10 am (each band playing a 20 minute programme) culminating in a massed bands concert at about 8.15 pm, conducted by Philip Harper.

Two new music commissions have been written for the massed bands; one from Matt Kingston entitled O Still Voice of Calm and the other from Philip Harper entitled Glorioso. A third commission again from Philip Harper called Colwell Suite has been written for the Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band, who are also taking part in the event.

All the performances will be recorded by Chorum Records. The massed bands will perform music provided by Wright & Round, the pieces are Gloucestershire Wassail, the Overture from Music for the Royal Fireworks, Farandole from L'Arlesienne, as well as the Yellow Baton version of Going the Distance by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, commissioned by the BFBB and awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark. It also has been designated as the major event on Mad 4 Brass Bands Day.

All proceeds from the event will be shared between two local charities - The Pied Piper Appeal and Great Oaks Hospice.

Gates open at 9.00am and tickets are priced at £5 with children under 16 free of charge.
