Not long until the GBBA annual contest, so was wondering who's going in each section as there is no news yet on the gbba website.

Bream Silver are going & are looking forward to what will hopefully be a good contest. Just entering one section this year though, as also preparing for Pontins at the end of the month :D

well, there are at least 3 - usk, lydbrook training and Cinderford academy.

Forest of Dean Area Youth aren't doing this one as it is too early in the academic year - we have only had one rehearsal so far this year! FODAYBB will be at the entertainments contes in February tho, and probably Crosskeys.

Shame the contest hasn't reverted back to mid November, that would have given you a bit more rehearsal time, and to think that it was only moved forward for bands who don't bother to attend anyway.

We (berry hill) are not doing it this year, a bit of a shame but I'm sure we'll be back next year. The contest was moved forward because a band said they couldn't attend because they didn't have time to prepare for there Xmas concerts, and i as far as I'm aware they didn't attend the following year.
Why not ask the G.B.B.A to consider moving it back to the original date?

It is a bit of a shame Huw as we have a piece that we played segments of at Symphony hall in July that is actually a test piece so we had something in our repertoire that we could play but an early October date is just a "no-brainer" for us sorry to say. We would have liked to support the contest though.

Mid November works for us but may not for others. Any later and we all have the inevitable Christmas concert stuff to deal with and earlier you end up with the half term and Pontins being an issue. It's tricky for the GBBA to get it right for everyone.

Any news from anywhere about competing bands - the GBBA website is a bit out of date as its still advertising the entry forms as being available! Oops!

The three band in 4th Section (if my memory is correct) are

    Bream Silver
    Pangbourne & District
    Phoenix Brass

City of Bristol Training Band are also competing in the Youth/Training/Unregistered Section

Should be a good contest - look forward to seeing you all there

The GBBA Executive would be more happy to re-consider the date of the contest should it guarantee a larger entry. However what pleases one band may not please another.

Previously it was moved forward from the last Sunday in November due to more than one band telling us that it clashed with their Xmas Concert preparations.

Perhaps a date in mid November would be better - this would enable bands attending the SWBBA contest in Torquay or Pontins contest to take part and play the pieces thay had already prepared for those contests.

If any band has any comments on the contest date or the contest itself please let us know. Better still if your band is a member of the GBBA come to our AGM early next year and represent your band.

This contest is very important to us and it is our wish all bands wishing to enter are able to take part.

    Lydbrook - Steve Sykes
    Swindon Pegasus -

    2nd/3rd section
    Drybrook - Kevin White
    Pllowell - Steve Ruck

    4th section
    Bream - Huw Cole
    Pangbourne
    Pheonix Brass

    Youth/Training/Unregistered - starts at 1.00pm
    City of Bristol Training
