"A disagreement in relation to the musical direction in which the band is being taken brought the situation to a head and it was agreed to severe the relationship with immediate effect" - Gareth Pritchard 4BR has been informed by the conductor Gareth Pritchard, that his partnership with the EYMS Band in the North East has come to an end. Although disappointed, Gareth was keen to point out that he still wished the organisation the very best in the future after a period in his musical life which he felt was progressive and rewarding for both parties. There is no news at present to who will be taking over the reins at the band for the forthcoming Grand Shield contest in Blackpool. The official press release from him reads as follows: After four years and over 100,000 miles of travelling between his home in Stockport and the band base in Hull, Gareth Pritchard and the EYMS Band have parted company. A disagreement in relation to the musical direction in which the band is being taken brought the situation to a head and it was agreed to severe the relationship with immediate effect. The decision was taken during a meeting held while Gareth was in Wales helping the Tongwynlais Temperance Band at the Welsh Regional Contest, due to the unfortunate circumstances that befell their conductor Bryn James. The EYMS Band under Gareth’s direction had qualified for the National Finals in three out of the past four years and also won the Senior Cup in 2002. Gareth wishes the band the very best in the future in their new direction.
