Passion for Our Times by Phillip Wilby
    Palm Sunday, March 28th
    Bristol Cathedral
    Admission FREE!

Woodfalls Band will be teaming up with choristers, actors and dancers to perform the moving Passion for Our Times by Phillip Wilby on Palm Sunday, March 28th in Bristol Cathedral.

A Passion For Our Times was originally commissioned by the City of Liverpool in 1993 to commemorate the life of James Bulger, the little lad that was abducted and so brutally killed by two young boys. The music was first written for wind band and choir but later arranged for brass band and choir. Woodfalls Band was very proud and honoured to premier this new version of such a powerful piece last April and the band is thrilled to be involved with another performance of the work this coming Palm Sunday.

The performance will take place in the amazing setting of Bristol Cathedral and involve the Great Choir of the Cathedral, an organist, narration, actors from trinity College, Bristol and Phillip Wilby’s wife Canon Wendy Wilby.

There are three acts to the Passion separated by two highly virtuoso organ solos, and the music moves from a brutal start, to a sorrowful middle and a beautifully serene ending as it tells the story of Jesus’ trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. Band, choir and narrator are skilfully interwoven for the first two acts whilst the peaceful finale follows the more traditional format of a choral mass. The huge work also highlights the band’s soloists with cornets, flugel, solo horn, trombones and soprano asked to act out parts of the drama.

A Passion for Our Times is truly a stunning work - everyone is welcome to attend this free performance starting at 3.30pm on Sunday 28th in Bristol Cathedral.

What a good month for Phillip Wilby - two major choir and band pieces being performed in Bristol in March now. Flowers play the Bronte Mass at the Colston Hall on the 6th March - http://www.themouthpiece.com/vb/showthread.php?t=40321 then we'll play Mass for Our Times on the 28th!
