Freckleton Band Press Release – 3rd October 2006

Members of the Freckleton Band are delighted with their performance and subsequent 1st place at the North West Counties Contest in Fleetwood on the 1st October. This result clocks up the band’s 12th win at the contest since 1989! All eyes (and ears!) are now focused towards November’s Scottish Open competition, at which the band has competed since the contest’s inception.

Fleetwood also saw the first contest outing for the band’s new stage uniforms. A change of style back to the “old” colours of Black and Blue has been made possible by a generous donation from the Freckleton firm “Polytank Ltd.”, the UK’s leading plastic moulding and water tank manufacturers. Huge thanks must be conveyed to the Fidler family, who have been supporters of the band for many years.

On a sadder note, Fleetwood saw the last appearance of Joanne Cookson, our 2nd Baritone player. Joanne has recently returned to work after the birth of her son and has found that teaching, a young baby and a 2 band household (husband Richard is Chairman and EEb Bass with Besses) isn’t a workable situation! Applications for the post are welcome; see the band’s website or "Recruitment Corner" for further details.

The band thanks everyone for their support and congratulations after the Fleetwood contest. Many fellow bandsmen and listeners have been very complimentary either personally, via email or on our website Guestbook, and we hope to keep up the good work both on the contest and concert platforms.
