Quick! Some ideas for a flugel solo for a concert I have coming up!

Criteria : Not necessarily christmassy (but christmassy is fine too!), with nice bits and twiddly bits!

    Ideas on a post(card)!

    thank you!!

    Orange Juice
Lightwalk (not a solo as such, but a feature you could stand up for)

Nigel Hall suggested The Rose as a Sop solo to me, but it is also written as a Flugel solo (see http://www.mmi-music.co.uk/Catalogue%20Page_2.htm for solo pdf and scorch file)

    Autumn Leaves

Its not that technical but has calm melodic section and then goes into a swing rhythm with a bit of technical work in.

A really good piece, especially if you're not too chicken to try for the top D ! :)

What about the arrangement of Away in a Manger as a flugel solo by Peter Graham I believe. Played through it the other day and it is a lovely arrangement.

Yeah, we had a blow through this last night - its a really nice arrangement. Surprisingly un-cheesy, considering its a Christmas piece.

Matey, can't believe you can't think of any after the hundreds you've played...how bout In Heaven? x
  14. How about 'Presto & Cantabile' by David Kirtlan?

Does anyone know where I could get the music for this? Its a really nice solo.

If its Christmassy you want then either 'Santa Claus is comin to town'-Mark Freeh or 'Away in a Manger'-Peter Grahem. Both completely different but both great in their own way.

If its non Christmassy, then I just recorded a CRACKER last night by Pete Meechan called 'APEX'-It involves singing from the band, a bit like Sanchez with a slow feel at the start with a little faster section in the middle and a slow ending. A corker I promise (Solo cornet from Sellars Youth won the soloist prize with it at the weekend)

    Hope this helps

Agreed it is a v. good piece. (Congrats to Joe for tameside)

Although a big problem is tuning in the singing with the pitches of voices. But still a very good piece, well done Peter Meechan

Kerwintootle, where can I get a copy of feelin' good? I heard you do it at Brass in Concert (brilliantly) and would really like to give it a go?

(Sorry to hijack the thread briefly, been wanting to ask that question since weekend before last but not had a chance!!)
